The Massachusetts Mental Health Center was slated for demolition to make way for updated facilities. Anna Schuleit was commissioned to do something to memorialize the building in a way that reflected the sadness and hope it has seen, and the past as well as the future.
Struck by what she didn’t see in the building, the presence of life and color, she executed a massive public art installation called Bloom. Nearly 28,000 potted flowers filling almost every square foot of the building.
